Our Mission
The mission of the Detroit Literacy Coalition (DLC) is to provide comprehensive, collaborative, lifelong literacy support to children and adults throughout Metro Detroit. The DLC recognizes that literacy extends far beyond the ability to read and comprehend written text. DLC embraces a broader definition of literacy that includes innovative approaches and strategies to build a society where technology, health, finance, social justice, and food security are integral to lifelong learning.
Through research-based, data-driven, and community-centered initiatives, DLC strengthens reading, writing, math, technology use, financial literacy, health literacy, food security awareness, and social justice literacy.
By envisioning and working toward a literate society across these interconnected areas, DLC strives to address the comprehensive needs of the community and foster a lasting culture of lifelong learning.
