Wayne State University iStart Program /DLC Partnership program

New partnership between Wayne State University and the Detroit Literacy Coalition -- literacy training of WSU iStart students in Fall. From the July 30th article by Patricia Scott in The South End, the official student newspaper of Wayne State University:

"Wayne State will be offering its incoming freshmen an opportunity to be certified as literacy tutors through iStart and the Detroit Literacy Coalition.

The joint partnership is being done in an effort to take on the literacy crisis in Detroit.

The DLC, under the direction of Dr. Daphne Ntiri, a WSU associate professor of Africana studies, has been involved in training literacy tutors since 1985. But the effort is taking on a new dimension with the recruiting of WSU student volunteers."
